Four years ago, I began a series of five volumes on the topic of whether the human species would be erased, and if so by what. All five were subtitled "A Catalog of Imaginary Creatures". In light of the ever-increasing dialogue about what A.I. is doing to us, and whether it will eventually eliminate us entirely, I bring you here the libretto of Volume Five. In the book it is followed by provocative CAD images of the creatures that might supercede us, if we cannot resist our addiction to violence.
Are We Erased?
Butter queried shattered cocoon:
Does a fart fly? Does a fungus cry? Are they asking why
Out there?
Do SETI and METI wed
Out there?
Has FGM ever bled
Out there?
Does the shape of time ever change
Out there?
Is there any rapture to capture
Out there?
Does crux have a matter, pitter hate patter, God have a bladder
Out there?
Is there even a there to out, out there?
Cocoon crooned
Fly, soar, but always beware
Of the pillar of certainty, OZ of impunity, johns of divinity
Every and any
Shapely infinity
Out there.
For you are the where
Of there.

Note: Another view of humanity's extinction is offered by Paola Antonelli, senior curator of architecture and design at MOMA in New York.
And a thought-provoking response comes from a new Netflix scifi.
