Running of the Bulls
Once upon a yearly day
In Pamplona, Spain, or so they say
Four-legged bulls chase scrambling feet
Down narrow alley and bustling street.
Once upon an everyday
Two-legged bullies stalk their prey
Arresting all who stand in their way.
They deny, decry, defy, delay.
How do they manage to get away
With crimes that were punishable yesterday?
The outlaws have outlawed Judgement Day.
But only for themselves, you see
Not for thee. Not for we.
I can give attitude some laditude. But baditude? Boils my coils, Dude.
Who are we?
We wash your cars
We clean your scars
We grow your flowers
We work late hours
We care for your offspring
While you disappear ours.
We are also left-handed, red-headed, bastardized, gay.
We are Leonardo.
We are savage, polluting, wild beasts.
We are Matisse.
Artists are awash
In serum delirium, unrestrained vivacity, uninhibited capacity for truth.
Whose truth? Who knows?
Art knows.
Art compels you to twitch, itch
In impolite places.
Truth?
Truth struts in an exclusive country club
Whose members are predominantly white
Where? On their fingernails?
Power?
Power is vested in money, clothed in hypocrisy, draped in bullying.
Being truthful, unmoneyed, color full
Disempowered, other than, also ran
Risks being rejected, ejected, ostrasized, silenced.
Instead, let's rummage through closets of our mind,
Discard fragments that keep us blind.
Plunge into questions no one can answer.
We can try.
Try to climb out of the morass
Of deny, lie, muddle, befuddle.
Rescue sanity, humanity
Save Democracy from brutality.
Are you ready?
Bully!
